COMPONENT SOURCING / ST
Sensors & timing
Sensors and timing devices must match the application as well as the footprint. Include the full ordering code, the signal your system expects and the environmental conditions it will encounter.
- Motion & environmental
- Oscillators
- Timing ICs
SOURCING CHECKLIST
Details to include with your RFQ
Keep the requirements on the same enquiry. Mark unknown details for confirmation.
- 01
Measured or generated signal
Sensor type and measurement range, or oscillator frequency and output type. Include the relevant full manufacturer ordering code.
- 02
Performance requirements
Accuracy, resolution, response time, bandwidth or frequency stability as applicable. State the conditions over which each requirement applies.
- 03
System interface
Supply voltage, digital interface or analogue output, logic levels, address options and any software or calibration requirements.
- 04
Mechanical environment
Package, pinout, mounting orientation, operating temperature and any exposure, pressure port or axis requirements.
- 05
Ordering details
Quantity, packing format, delivery date and any approved calibration, grade or configuration suffix. Specify whether alternatives are permitted for review.
ENGINEERING REVIEW
Keep the original requirement visible
Matching range or frequency alone is insufficient. An alternative may change calibration, timing behaviour, output format, accuracy or firmware requirements; obtain engineering approval.
List a proposed alternative separately with its full code and approval status. Confirm the part, quantity, condition, documentation and delivery assumptions before purchasing.
Read the alternatives checklistCOMMON QUESTIONS
Before you enquire
Are oscillator frequency and package enough for a quote?
Also provide the exact ordering code, output type, supply, stability and temperature requirements. State any enable, standby or load requirements specified for the design.
Can two sensors with the same interface be substituted?
An interface match is only one check. Register maps, scaling, calibration, axes and performance can differ, so the design owner must review and validate the proposal.
